Reflections

Having completed an Art Foundation course in year 2000  followed by an HNC and now in 2005 completing my HND in Fine Art at Salisbury College I feel I have followed my goal in becoming an artist.

July 2005 I became the Secretary and co-creator of the AVA “Amesbury Visual Artists”, bringing together professional artists offering; Workshops, Exhibitions, Art Trails through a networking system of promotions and marketing.

I now specialise in life drawing in pastel and by re-creating the subject through graphic manipulation am able to re-cycle my artwork into a deeper dimension, one which you would not see with the naked eye.

I have shown my work at many exhibitions including Waterloo Gallery in London.

I now have my own Studio where I am able to exhibit some of my work and allow visitors to see work in progress.

Paintings, Acrylics on Canvas, Contemporary

Harry

Studying art at GCSE and A’level I was awarded the Mrs Henry Burch prize for art. Since 2003 I have had a number of successful solo exhibitions and open studios. In addition to my painting, I have worked as a Fisheries Scientist and spent time aboard a British Antarctic Survey research ship. Converting my professional scientific understanding of nature into colour and form, I express the natural and cultural environment using acrylic on canvas. Detailed representations balanced with broad, confident, more abstract gestures. I have also delivered a number of commissions of buildings and animals. The environment - water, oceans and rivers are my strongest inspirations with passion ignited by my German grandfather.

Watercolour, Oil & Pastel

Stanpit

Although I very much like painting in oil, I changed to water colour several years ago.  It has become one of the great pleasures of my life.  I enjoy painting lots of different subjects, each new one becoming my favourite, until I go on to another one.  Sometimes I like to add figures to my paintings and like to feel that I am taking part in whatever they are doing such as walking along beaches or through trees.  I have exhibited at the Salisbury District Hospital, Salisbury Library, The Catherdral Close and The Antrobus Arms Hotel in Amesbury.  With painting there is always something to look forward to and likeminded people to meet which is a bonus.

Amy Hodson Tiara and Headress design, Cards & Wedding Stationery, Jewellery design

Medieval

My interest in jewellery design arose when I was about 6 when my mum purchased a few jewellery kits and let me dabble with them.  I was always doodling new designs but it was only in 2004 when I truly got interested.  I was engaged at the time and my mum wanted to make my bridal tiara, so we both went along to a tiara workshop.  Since then I have designed and made a number of bridal and bridesmaid tiaras for various weddings including my own, a few for a ball, and also a couple of fascinators, with beads alone or with feathers included.

My tiara designs range from full on jaw dropping to simple and understated, and my jewellery designs are usually modern elegance.

For my own wedding I also designed some bead and wire work for the flower arrangements including the bouquets.  In addition to this I designed the decoration for the wedding cake including the ‘topper’ which was mine and my husbands first initials entwined.

I specialise in weddings but I can do something for a special occasion, like a ball, prom, birthdays or even theatre trips, and can also provide wedding stationery or a single card for an occasion.  The prices of these are quoted after I have completed the preliminary designs; however they are usually £1 - £3 each for wedding stationary and between £3 - £6 for a single one off card.

I usually work with the customer preferably face to face to discuss their requirements; however it is possible to communicate via email or phone for customers who are not in the area.  I will then draw up a few designs of which I leave the final decision up to the customer; I also provide approximate costs for each design at this point.  My prices for my tiaras range from approx £30-£35 for a simple design, £15 approx for a child’s headdress and £60-£80 approx for a more complex design.  Fascinators are usually about £20-£50 depending on design and materials.

Pewter work,

Goblets

Having completed an Art Foundation course in 1988, I then undertook a Jewellery Design degree at Middlesex University.

Since graduating in 1993, I worked as a freelance designer for several companies including Liberty, Royal Selangor pewter and Anglo American Eyewear, primarily designing and manufacturing prototype product ranges in pewter and resin.

I now specialise in hand cast, decorative pewter items for the home, drawing my inspiration from simple natural forms, animals, mythology and architecture.

I have shown my work at several exhibitions including 100% Design, Pewter Live and Dazzle as well as being featured in Vogue, Homes and Gardens and The Daily Telegraph.  I also have a piece in the Silver Trust national collection of silver, which is held at number 10 Downing Street.

Sax Player

My love of art stems from my family. As a child I was actively encouraged to draw and paint.
I lived in Canada and America, and whilst there I began painting in oils, to capture on canvas the profusion of colours in the fall.
On returning to England, I opened my own business, and made use of the wall space to display and sell some of my paintings.
I have exhibited paintings in London, as well as local art galleries.

Kathy Gevaux

Watercolour and Acrylics

My Name is Kathy Gevaux, I am a self taught “artist”, and paint mostly in watercolour. However, I have dabbled with acrylic and have just discovered working with inks. I also enjoy drawing, either in pencil or ink. I attend an art group in Wilton, meeting on Monday afternoons. As a child I remember sitting on the floor in front of a roaring fire with colouring pencils and paper. If I was sitting I was usually drawing. I also enjoy crafting and making greeting cards.

Phillip Hutchings

Portrait and landscape work in oils

Self Protrait

I started my working career as a commercial artist and attended at Birmingham College of Art and at that time I became interested in Industrial landscapes and portrait painting.

In 2001 and after a happy career in the printing industry I decided to devote as much time as possible to painting and focused on portrait work in oils before broadening into other media and subjects.

I am currently a student at Salisbury College taking a part time course in Fine Arts and also developing the scope of my creative output.

My primary aim as an artist is to create pictures that have a visual impact and captures the attention of a viewer to stop and take in more than just a passing glance.

I have gained many commissions for portrait work and had samples of work in local art exhibitions.

Elizabeth Wade Lace work

I started making lace in 1998.  I was fortunate enough to be selected as a guinea pig for a new City & Guilds course and went on to pas parts 1 & 2.  Influenced by C&G, I use colour in my work as well as the traditional white, ecru and black.

I have taught lacemaking for St Edmunds Arts Centre, Salisbury College and Dorset Count Council and put on occasional workshops for The Lace Guild.  I am also involved in Spire and Sarum Lacemakers, based in Salisbury.

I have continually expanded my knowledge of techniques and  design and my book "Lacemaking - A Manual of Techniques", which was published in 1991, is still available in paperback.

I have had my work shown in Salisbury Museum in their "Textiles 2000" exhibition and also in various Lace Guild and WI exhibitions and competitions

I am willing to make handkerchiefs, garters and bookmarks and also larger more creative pieces.

Contact me via the Contacts page.
